Airable Research Lab is founded on a successful history of soy-based technology R&D (highlights below). For years, our experienced researchers have partnered with industry and academia to develop and commercialize products that meet the escalating demand for sustainable products that don’t compromise on performance.

We supported the development of a UV-cured, high-performance, bio-preferred floor coating with no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The clean, green soy-acrylate-based product delivers exceptionally low cure times and meets or exceeds industry targets for appearance, hardness, adhesion, solvent resistance, and application temperature. Light Curable Coatings was honored with two 2018 R&D 100 Awards, including a Special Recognition for Green Technology.

Light Curable Coatings™

A USDA Certified Biobased Product, Roof Maxx is an earth-friendly, effective, and affordable alternative to roof replacement or the application of traditional roof sealants. The product uses Soy-Fusion Technology to extend the life of roofing shingles, reducing waste and conserving valuable resources—for a cost significantly lower than roof replacement. Roof Maxx received fourth place in the “Bio-Based Material of the Year 2018” Innovation Awards.

Roof Maxx™

This patented soy-based resin was developed to replace Bisphenol-A (BPA)-based resins, which have potential to release chemical toxins. Safe and effective soy-PK is reactive with many cross-linkers (amino resin, polymeric isocyanates and acrylates) and capable of forming coatings that match the performance of BPA-based coatings. The product was awarded second place in the Bio-Based Chemical Innovation of the Year category of the 2016 Bio-Based Innovation Awards.


Surfactants are essential to enhanced oil recovery (EOR), but most of these agents are toxic and expensive. Soy-based surfactants, the result of a research collaboration, provide the oil industry with a solution to cost and environmental concerns. Derived from epoxidized soybean oil or epoxidized soybean oil methyl ester, this family of surfactants is suitable for a variety of applications, including EOR from tight rock formations. The introductory soy-based product outperformed two commercial products in testing. The chemical platform is versatile, allowing commercial partners to tailor the product to specific performance and sustainability needs.


EnzoMeal® represents a breakthrough product for use in commercially derived feed in a high-value, well-recognized aquaculture species such as rainbow trout. Efforts to find suitable, more sustainable replacement proteins for fish meal have intensified, as has the need to increase the inclusion levels of soybean meal in aqua feed formulations. This technology was developed to remove oligosaccharides, the nondigestible carbohydrates that limit soybean meal’s use, as well as increasing crude protein. EnzoMeal® provides aquaculture farmers a sustainable, long-term, economically viable, and healthy solution. The 2017 R&D 100 Awards honored the product with the Gold Special Recognition Award—the highest level of this prestigious award for invention and innovation—in the Corporate Social Responsibility category.


Airable Research Lab is a business line of the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC). OSC is governed by a volunteer farmer board, which directs the Soybean Promotion and Research Program.
